Continuing Out Spiritual Power and Momentum
Continuing Our Spiritual Power and Momentum
President Quinn’s Weekly Message
California Santa Rosa Mission
March 2nd, 2026
I enjoy watching and participating in sports. During a recent closely contested basketball game I was watching, a player on the home (BYU) team made an impressive play where he stole the basketball and raced the length of the court for an impressive dunk. The home crowd erupted in approval (me with them). The home team seized momentum from the play. For the next several minutes the home team went on to score eleven straight points. The visiting – and more highly rated team, never regained momentum and end up losing the game.
Momentum is a real and powerful force. It is palpable. Just ask any athlete who has competed in a sporting event. Momentum in all aspects of life is realized as we build confidence and faith in our abilities. If you have momentum on your side, things go better than when you do not have it.
As we have realized over the last several months, momentum can be a valuable tool for us in our missionary service. I believe the things we need to do to keep our momentum is found in the missionary service of the sons of Mosiah:
“…they had waxed strong in the knowledge of the truth; for they were men of a sound understanding and they had searched the scriptures diligently, that they might know the word of God. …and they fasted much and prayed much that the Lord would grant unto them a portion of his Spirit to go with them, and abide with them, that they might be an instrument in the hands of God to bring, if it were possible, their brethren, the Lamanites, to the knowledge of the truth…” (Alma 17:2,9)
Scripture study, prayer, and fasting were practices these missionaries used to qualify for the essential gift of the Spirit. We also see urgency and effort in their missionary work as they served among the Lamanites. Through their labors and personal preparation, the sons of Mosiah created spiritual momentum that resulted in the baptism of thousands (see Alma 17-27).
In a recent conference address, Elder Renlund teaches us the importance of building our spiritual momentum daily:
“Our faith in Jesus Christ needs to be nourished daily. It is nourished as we pray daily, study the scriptures daily, reflect on the goodness of God daily, repent daily, and follow the promptings of the Holy Ghost daily. …When we assume responsibility for our own testimonies, we gain spiritual momentum and gradually develop bedrock faith in Jesus Christ, and the doctrine of Christ becomes central to the purpose of life.” (Elder Dale G. Renlund, GC April 2024)
In PMG, these same principles for achieving spiritual power and momentum are taught:
“God gives spiritual power as you consistently work to strengthen your testimony of Him, Jesus Christ, and the gospel truths you teach. He bestows spiritual power as you pray, study the scriptures, and seek to fulfill your missionary purpose. He grants spiritual power as you strive to keep His commandments and the covenants you made when you received the ordinances of salvation. (see D&C 35:24)”
I ask each of you to consider personally, as a companionship, district, and zone what you can do to continue the momentum we have enjoyed over the last several transfers.
My prayer is that you will continue to do those things that strengthen your spiritual power and momentum. I know that daily prayer, scripture study, repentance, and obedience to missionary standards will qualify you for these blessings.
Thank you for your diligent, loving, and faithful service. Let’s continue the momentum we have been blessed with. Sister Quinn and I are excited to witness the blessing that will come to CASRM in this next transfer.
Love,
President Quinn
