Hold Up Your Light

“Hold Up Your Light”

President Quinn’s Weekly Message

Our son Chase was in town this last week with his family. His wife, Maryssa, loves lighthouses, so we visited the Point Reyes lighthouse on Thursday to tour this beautiful and impressive lighthouse. While visiting the lighthouse, a ranger shared with us that using strategically placed magnifying glass, which makes a lens, and a lit candle the lighthouse was able to project a beam of light 36 miles out to sea. imagine that! A single candle flame magnified and projected across that great distance to assistance mariners on their journey. Think of that the next time you blow out candles on your birthday cake.

As we were leaving the lighthouse, I was reminded of an attribute of the Lord I greatly admire – His ability to multiply and magnify our offerings. One of my favorite examples of this attribute is recorded in the Gospel of Matthew:

“And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes. He said, Bring them hither to me. And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full. And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.” (Matthew 14:18-21)

We see from this miracle that the Lord is indeed a multiplier. From a humble offering of five loaves of bread and two fishes, the Savior multiplies the offering miraculously to feed more than 5000 people, with food to spare. I invite you to consider other examples in the scriptures where the Savior multiplies the offerings given to Him.

We see examples of the Lord’s multiplying and magnifying attributes every day in CASRM. Over the last few transfers, we have witnessed miraculous increases in our baptisms and confirmations as you have worked a minimum of 35 hours a week finding, teaching, and inviting. We have also seen baptisms increase as you have put in practice CASRM 4x24. With these results, we can all testify that the Lord is a multiplier of our efforts.

I invite you to continue finding ways to share the light of the gospel. Please remember who you represent and the invitation the Lord has extended to you:

“Therefore, hold up your light that it may shine unto the world. Behold I am the light which ye shall hold up—that which ye have seen me do.” (3 Nephi 18:24)

As you serve others by sharing the gospel by word and deed, you hold up the Savior’s light for Him to magnify. I promise His light will shine into the eternities – for you and those you serve. Thank you for the things you are doing to hold up the Savior’s light.

We love you! Sister Quinn and I pray the Lord’s choicest and abundant blessings upon each of you. Thank you for your faithfulness.

Love,

President Quinn
