Steadfast and Immovable

Steadfast and Immovable

President Quinn’s Weekly Message

California Santa Rosa Mission

October 27th, 2025

Sister Quinn and I returned last night from four days of instruction with the other 28 mission leaders in the US West Area. We were blessed to be taught by Elder and Sister Bednar on Friday and Saturday. We received inspired instruction from our Area Presidency. We look forward to sharing the instruction we received with you over the next several weeks. We are blessed in the Church to be led by the Lord’s servants

As I mentioned on the transfer call Saturday night, we have an exciting week ahead of us. On Wednesday we will welcome 27 new missionaries to CASRM. This is the largest group of missionaries to join us on one transfer in the last two years. I am confident you will make them feel welcome and exemplify our culture of high love and high expectations of serving in the Savior’s way. I am excited for the new opportunities to lead and train many of you will have this new transfer. I have great confidence in you. I am grateful for your service and influence for good.

This next week we will also see 12 missionaries return home after honorable completing their service in CASRM. These missionaries return home with our love and respect. We will miss serving with you. We are excited for the joyous reunion soon to come with your family and friends.

I was raised in a family of 12. I have eight brothers. My wise parents understood the importance of keeping their sons busy doing good things. Idleness was discouraged by my parents. My brothers and I were all swimmers. We swam 2-4 hours a day year-round. If you hope to compete at the highest level as a swimmer, you have no off season. You train year-round. Because we trained every day (except Sundays), we were too tired to get in trouble. Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympic athlete as a swimmer, once shared that for five years he never took a day off. He trained 5-6 hours every day – even holidays. He found that if he took a day off, he needed two days to recover.

I believe the daily training requirement of champion swimmers applies to us in the fulfillment of our missionary purpose. We cannot afford to take a day off. We need to remain focused and work each day to accomplish our missionary purpose of sharing the gospel. King Benjamin taught his people the importance and rewards of consistent faithfulness:

“Therefore, I would that ye should be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works, that Christ, the Lord God Omnipotent, may seal you his, that you may be brought to heaven, that ye may have everlasting salvation and eternal life…” (Mosiah 5:15)

King Bejamin teaches us the blessings that come to us as we exercise consistency in “good works.” There is no greater blessing available to us in this life – and the next then being sealed to Jesus Christ. Learning to be “steadfast and immovable” in acts of righteousness is an important lesson to learn as a missionary and to apply later in life.

I am grateful for the daily and consistent efforts I witness across CASRM as you work to fulfill your missionary purpose. Please spend time this week considering additional ways you can be more “steadfast and immovable” in your missionary service. Please consider your personal studies, companionship goals and plans, daily schedule, and obedience to standards. Are there opportunities for you to be more consistent each day? We have been blessed with miraculous success in CASRM because of your diligence and consistency in fulfilling your missionary purpose. I promise the Lord will continue to bless us in abundance as we exercise even more consistency in fulfilling our missionary purpose.

We look forward to seeing many of you this week on transfer day and new missionary orientation. Sister Quinn and I are grateful to serve with you. It is an exciting time in CASRM with the arrival of so many new missionaries.

Love,

President Quinn
