The Infinite and Intimate Atonement of Jesus Christ
The Infinite and Intimate Atonement of Jesus Christ
President Quinn’s Weekly Message
California Santa Rosa Mission
March 16th, 2026
It was wonderful being with you last week in zone conferences. Thank you for joining us. I hope you will spend time reviewing your notes and applying the instruction you were given.
Sister Quinn and I spoke of the infinite nature of the Savior’s Atonement in our instruction last week. We taught that the Atonement of Jesus Christ was both “infinite and intimate.” We shared seven ways the Atonement of Jesus Christ is infinite: in the divinity of Jesus Christ, power, time, coverage, depth, suffering, and love (see The Infinite Atonement, Tad R. Calister). It is also intimate in its application to us individually. Elder Teh, a General Authority Seventy, shared the following:
“Oftentimes it is easier for us to think and speak of Christ’s Atonement in general terms than to recognize its personal significance in our lives. The Atonement of Jesus Christ is infinite and eternal and all-encompassing in its breadth and depth but wholly personal and individual in its effects. Because of His atoning sacrifice, the Savior has power to cleanse, heal, and strengthen us one by one.” (Elder Teh, GC April 2021)
President Nelson also taught us the individual and personal nature of the Savior’s Atonement:
“Jesus Christ took upon Himself your sins, your pains, your heartaches, and your infirmities. You do not have to bear them alone! He will forgive you as you repent. He will bless you with what you need. He will heal your wounded soul. As you yoke yourself to Him, your burdens will feel lighter. If you will make and keep covenants to follow Jesus Christ, you will find that the painful moments of your life are temporary. Your afflictions will be “swallowed up in the joy of Christ.” (President Nelson, GC October 2024)
While reading these two quotes, I was reminded of the Savior’s visit to the people in the Americas. The following account beautifully demonstrates the Savior’s desire for us to have a personal witness of His atoning sacrifice. He wants us to feel and understand the depth of His love for us. The Savior extended the following invitation to the people gathered at the temple in Zarahemla:
“Arise and come forth unto me, that ye may thrust your hands into my side, and also that ye may feel the prints of the nails in my hands and in my feet, that ye may know that I am the God of Israel, and the God of the whole earth, and have been slain for the sins of the world.
“And it came to pass that the multitude went forth, and thrust their hands into his side, and did feel the prints of the nails in his hands and in his feet; and this they did do, going forth one by one until they had all gone forth, and did see with their eyes and did feel with their hands, and did know of a surety and did bear record, that it was he, of whom it was written by the prophets, that should come.” (3 Nephi 11:14-15)
The Savior extends the same invitation to each of us. He invites us to “come forth…one by one” with our personal needs, sufferings, sins, challenges, and infirmities. He desires to “succor” us – providing the healing we require (see Alma 7:11-12). As we find healing through His Atonement, we will be able to declare, like to people of Zarahemla, that He is our Savior and Redeemer (see 3 Nephi 11:17).
I testify that as we come to more deeply understand, apply, and express gratitude for the Savior’s Atonement, we will never lose the desire to be His lifelong disciples. We will be blessed with a personal relationship and oneness with Him. I know that as our relationship with Him grows and deepens, we will be more kind, loving, selfless, obedient, and joyful. In short, we will become more like our Savior Jesus Christ. This is my prayer for each of us.
Love,
President Quinn
