Water to Wine
Water to Wine
President Quinn’s Weekly Message
California Santa Rosa Mission
December 1st, 2025
Today is the first day of December. I am excited to begin the holiday season. I love Christmas! This is a wonderful time of year to be a missionary. We are blessed to share and witness the truth of our Heavenly Father’s love through the birth and life of His son, Jesus Christ.
Each week this month, I will share a gospel truth I have learned from the life of Jesus Christ. This week I have chosen the first recorded miracle of Jesus Christ – the changing of water to wine during the wedding feast (John 2:1-11). In this story, we see the Savior responding to the request of His mother to provide more wine for the guests attending a wedding. The Savior miraculously transforms six waterpots containing water to wine. The “governor” of the feast, not knowing of the miracle performed by Jesus, drinks the wine. He is so impressed by its taste that He compliments the bridegroom on the quality of the wine – asking why he has served the best wine last.
This miracle teaches us that the Savior has the power to transform the common or ordinary (water) into something of greater value (wine). The Book of Mormon teaches us the miraculous power of the atonement and grace of Jesus Christ to transform our weaknesses into our strengths. The prophet Moroni taught:
“And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.” (Ether 12:27)
What a wonderful promise! Our weaknesses can become our strengths through the grace offered to us by Jesus Christ. Like the water in the waterpots, the Savior’s atonement and its accompanying grace have the capacity to transform us into a higher and holier version of ourselves.
Each of us have weakness that make us vulnerable to the temptations and influences of Satan. At times, we each feel common or unworthy of God’s love. The Lord demonstrates, promises, and teaches us in the scriptures above that He has the capacity and means to strengthen us to overcome any weakness. Through following the teachings of righteous leaders, by hard work, repentance, surrounding ourselves with people of faith – and most importantly exercising faith in the Savior’s grace, we can overcome our weaknesses. It does not matter what our weaknesses may be, how poorly we think of ourselves, or how long we have struggled the Lord can provide the strength we need to overcome.
I testify to the redeeming and enabling power of the Savior’s Atonement. I know that by exercising faith in Him and the grace He offers us, our weaknesses will become our strengths. The Lord has made a beautiful and powerful promise to lift us up:
“And my Father sent me that I might be lifted up upon the cross; and after that I had been lifted up upon the cross, that I might draw all men unto me, that as I have been lifted up by men even so should men be lifted up by the Father… (3 Nephi 27:14)
I have experienced the Savior’s redeeming and enabling power in my own life. I know He will do the same for you. I am grateful for the privilege we have to share this message with others.
Love,
President Quinn
