The Atonement - Zone Conference & Depths of Divine Love

Hermana Richins’/Breeze desk

With Easter approaching, President Quinn and I focused on the Atonement of our Savior Jesus Christ with our missionaries at zone conferences this past week. On page 2 of the “Preach My Gospel” manual, missionaries are promised, “As your understanding and testimony of the Savior and His Atonement grow, your desire to share the gospel will increase.” We have seen that promise come to life as our missionaries’ excitement to share the gospel and bless others continues to grow!

It was a joyful week, and I felt I was the one being taught as missionaries shared their own insights. One thought that stayed with me came from Sister Kristin Yee’s talk “The Joy of Our Redemption,” quoting James E. Talmage: “Just as we cannot comprehend the agony and depth of Christ’s suffering… so we cannot measure the bounds nor fathom the depths of His divine forgiveness, mercy, and love.” (Thank you Elder Wayment for calling our attention to this quote.) I have experienced that once we learn to take hold of the Savior’s love we are never the same. I had not thought about the depths this love can go to before and that makes it all the more life changing.

During the week I also heard from one of our recently returned missionaries, Hermana Richins, who shared a sweet story of forgiveness, second chances, and third chances. She attached a photo of her desk with a picture of Christ that I had given her. This really warmed by heart. Her story reminded me that the Atonement of Jesus Christ is not only infinite—it is also deeply personal and intimate.

We gave our missionaries an Easter gift of a painting by Elder Sellers where the resurrected Savior shows himself to the Nephites as he “weeps again” (3 Nephi 17) with joy while angels minister to the children. I can only imagine how joyous the Savior must have felt to have completed the Atonement and to lovingly invite these humble people to come forward and feel the scars in His hands and feet.

Art by Elder Sellers - I love the tears in the Savior’s eyes and the expressions on all the faces.

As we prepare for Easter, we have asked our missionaries to read the four Gospels and memorize The Living Christ. Flash cards are included with our invitation to memorize. Next zone conference we’ll recite it together.

Sister Quinn - notice her missionary tag - Zone Conference

My brother Greg Hoole, his wife, Kelly and daughter, Lucy, came to visit on Friday. Bless their hearts, they sat through our entire training at zone conference! It was fun to have them there. In honor of them visiting, I wore my mother’s missionary tag that day. Going through my mother’s things at her funeral I found her tag. It was wonderful to have it with me.. (Although the magnetic clips are a lot easier to fasten than the old fashioned pins!)
