Messages of Inspiration: President Jefferey R. Holland

President Quinn’s Weekly Message

California Santa Rosa Mission

January 5th, 2026

Happy New Year CASRM missionaries! We are grateful to our Heavenly Father for the countless blessings we have enjoyed as a mission – and individually in the last year. We look forward to the opportunities and blessings of this new year.

We mourn the passing of President Jefferey R. Holland. For over 31 years, he served as an Apostle of Jesus Christ. I have chosen to share with you a few of my favorite messages from President Holland. I hope you will spend some time pondering these inspired messages:

§  It is not possible for you to sink lower than the infinite light of Christ’s Atonement shines.

§  When fleeing the scene of temptation, do not leave a forwarding address.

§  I am convinced that missionary work is not easy because salvation is not a cheap experience. Salvation never was easy. We are the Church of Jesus Christ, this is the truth, and He is our Great Eternal Head. How could we believe it would be easy for us when it was never, ever easy for Him?

§  Don’t you quit. You keep walking. You keep trying. There is help and happiness ahead. Some blessings come soon, some come late, and some don’t come until heaven; but for those who embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ, they come. It will be all right in the end. Trust God and believe in good things to come.

§  The future of this world has long been declared; the final outcome between good and evil is already known. There is absolutely no question as to who wins because the victory has already been posted on the scoreboard. The only really strange thing in all of this is that we are still down here on the field trying to decide which team’s jersey we want to wear!

§  God doesn’t care nearly as much about where you have been as He does about where you are and, with His help, where you are willing to go.

§  I have spoken here of heavenly help, of angels dispatched to bless us in time of need. But when we speak of those who are instruments in the hand of God, we are reminded that not all angels are from the other side of the veil. Some of them we walk with and talk with — here, now, every day. …Indeed heaven never seems closer than when we see the love of God manifested in the kindness and devotion of people so good and so pure that angelic is the only word that comes to mind.

§  I ask that my testimony of the Book of Mormon and all that it implies, given today under my own oath and office, be recorded by men on earth and angels in heaven. I hope I have a few years left in my “last days,” but whether I do or do not, I want it absolutely clear when I stand before the judgment bar of God that I declared to the world, in the most straightforward language I could summon, that the Book of Mormon is true, that it came forth the way Joseph said it came forth and was given to bring happiness and hope to the faithful in the travail of the latter days.

§  …one of the great consolations of this Easter season is that because Jesus walked such a long, lonely path utterly alone, we do not have to do so. His solitary journey brought great company for our little version of that path—the merciful care of our Father in Heaven, the unfailing companionship of this Beloved Son, the consummate gift of the Holy Ghost, angels in heaven, family members on both sides of the veil, prophets and apostles, teachers, leaders, friends. All of these and more have been given as companions for our mortal journey because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the Restoration of His gospel.

§  However late you think you are, however many chances you think you have missed, however many mistakes you feel you have made or talents you think you don’t have, or however far from home and family and God you feel you have traveled, I testify that you have not traveled beyond the reach of divine love.

I know the Lord speaks to us today through prophets, seers, and revelators. I testify President Holland was one of these elect men. His inspired counsel has blessed my life for many years. I know his counsel will bless yours.

Love,

President Quinn
