Mighty in Word and In Deed
Mighty In Word and In Deed

We extend a warm welcome to the 12 missionaries who joined us last Wednesday. You are an impressive group! We are excited to serve with you in CASRM. We look forward to getting to know you better.
I hope one of the goals of your missionary service in CASRM is to learn the value of doing those things that will help you earn the trust of the Lord. One of the choicest gifts someone can give you is their trust. Trust is extended to us when someone knows we love and care for them – that we would never do anything to harm them. It is a precious gift that is earned over time and though selflessness. Achieving the Lord’s trust is one of the greatest possessions we can qualify for in life.
There are several examples in the scriptures where men and women earned the Lord’s trust. One of my favorite examples is the prophet Nephi in the book of Helaman. His faithfulness earned him the Lord’s trust:
“Blessed art thou, Nephi, for those things which thou hast done; for I have beheld how thou hast with unwearyingness declared the word, which I have given unto thee, unto this people. And thou hast not feared them, and hast not sought thine own life, but hast sought my will, and to keep my commandments.” (Helaman 10:4)
This verse is rich with instruction. In this short verse, we are given six things we can do to gain the Lord’s trust and qualify for His power:
1. Our actions must accompany our belief
2. We need to be consistently faithful
3. We need to fear God more than man
4. Our own pleasures and desires should not be our priority
5. We need to subject our will to God
6. We need to strive to keep the commandments
By practicing these principles throughout his life, Nephi earned the trust of the Lord. So strong and complete was the Lord’s trust in Nephi, that He was blessed with the sealing power. The Lord could grant this divine power, because He knew Nephi would never do or ask for anything that was contrary to His will:
“And now, because thou hast done this with such unwearyingness, behold, I will bless thee forever; and I will make thee mighty in word and in deed, in faith and in works; yea, even that all things shall be done unto thee according to thy word, for thou shalt not ask that which is contrary to my will.” (Helaman 10:6)
Who wouldn’t want the Lord to speak of them in this way!?!
I know we too can earn the precious gift of the Lord’s trust. As we serve with diligence, selflessness, and love in CASRM I know the Lord will bless each of us with His trust. His trust will translate into making us, like Nephi, “mighty in word and deed.”
I know the Lord extends His trust to those He has called to His service. I have witnessed the Lord’s trust and power manifest in the service of many of our missionaries in CASRM. I pray we can each serve with such diligence and faith that we qualify for the Lord’s trust and His “mighty” power.
Love,
President Quinn
