Miraculous Strength and Mighty Power

Miraculous Strength and Mighty Power

President Quinn’s Weekly Message

California Santa Rosa Mission

April 4th, 2026

Thank you for a wonderful week of zone conferences. We enjoyed being with you last week. It is always good to be together. I was pleased with the focused instruction on fulfilling our missionary purpose given in our conferences. I hope you apply the lessons taught.

Over the last few days, I have thought about the comment made by one of the missionaries in the film we watched on fulfilling our missionary purpose. She said that she and her companion would “fight” each day to achieve their missionary purpose. I admire the power and urgency behind the image of missionaries “fighting” to achieve their goals.

I believe we can do better “fighting” for our goals and plans in CASRM. We currently have the fewest number of people on date for baptism than any other transfer in the last 12 months. I hope to see more effort to fulfill our missionary purpose and achieve our goals across CASRM.

I believe we can learn important lessons of “fighting” for a righteous cause, like our missionary purpose, in the account of the young stripling warriors found in the Book of Mormon. These young warriors lacked experience in battle, but they made up for this lack of experience through their trustworthiness, strength, courage, and obedience:

“And they were all young men, and they were exceedingly valiant for courage, and also for strength and activity; but behold, this was not all—they were men who were true at all times in whatsoever thing they were entrusted. Yea, they were men of truth and soberness, for they had been taught to keep the commandments of God and to walk uprightly before him.” (Alma 53:20-21)

Did you see the word “activity” in the verse above? These stripling warriors were clearly “active” in doing those things that qualified them from the strength and blessings of the Lord. These verses go on to explain the types of “activity” these missionaries engaged in. Because of their “activity” they received miraculous strength, protection, and success in their fight to fulfill their righteous cause:

“But behold, to my great joy, there had not one soul of them fallen to the earth; yea, and they had fought as if with the strength of God; yea, never were men known to have fought with such miraculous strength; and with such mighty power…” (Alma 56:56)

I love the image and promise of fighting with the Lord’s “strength” and “mighty power.” I love the idea of being “active” to qualify for the Lord’s blessings to achieve the righteous ends He has established for us. When we access the Lord’s strength and power, it is impossible for us to fail in achieving our righteous goals. We learn several times throughout the Book of Mormon the blessings of strength and triumph that came to those who sought and relied on the strength of the Lord:

“Yea, in the strength of the Lord did we go forth to battle against the Lamanites; for I and my people did cry mightily to the Lord… And God did hear our cries and did answer our prayers; and we did go forth in his might… (Mosiah 9:17-18)

Each time the Nephite armies relied on the strength of the Lord versus their own strength, they were victorious. The same was true for the stripling warriors. We can find application of this truth in our missionary work here in CASRM. I promise the Lord will bless you to achieve your goals as you qualify for His might and strength – but you must fight for it! The advisory is working against you. Heavenly power is available to you. That power will come as you earnestly seek it through sincere prayer, faith, and effort.

As a companionship and district, please seek the inspiration of the Lord in setting goals and making plans to fulfill your missionary purpose. Once you have set the goals and made your plans – go to work! Fight for them! Like the stripling warriors, be “active” in your efforts to fulfill your missionary purpose. Nothing grows faith and accesses heavenly power more than sincere effort. Demonstrate your faith and earnestness to achieve your goals through your hourly, daily, and weekly efforts. I promise the Lord will see your efforts and bless you!

Love,

President Quinn
