Our Missionary Purpose
Our Missionary Purpose
President Quinn’s Weekly Message
California Santa Rosa Mission
April 27th, 2026
Sister Quinn and I returned late Saturday evening from the semi-annual US West Mission Leader Seminar. It was held for four days last week just outside of Portland, OR. These seminars are held every six months. We enjoy the opportunity of meeting with our Area Presidency and the other 28 mission leaders here in our Area. We were blessed to be joined by Elder Neil L. Andersen and his wife. We learned a great deal and were inspired by the instruction during the seminar. We look forward to sharing many of the things we learned with you.
I know that missionary work can be challenging and difficult. If it wasn’t, it wouldn’t be worth it. There are many important life and spiritual lessons to be learned in missionary work. I also know there is great joy found in missionary work. This joy is a payoff for the challenges you work through. President Nelson has taught:
“…the joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives.” (General Conference October 2016)
This is wonderful counsel for us to remember when you are struggling to find joy in our missionary service. Remembering that the joy found in missionary service is not contingent on our circumstances or results, but on our focus is wise and inspired counsel. If you are not feeling joy as a missionary, you need to refocus on the Savior. I am confident keeping your focus on the Jesus Christ will help you to find and feel joy in His service. Please remember this instruction given in PMG:
“As you study the doctrine in the missionary lessons, you will see that we have one message: Jesus is the Christ, our Savior and Redeemer.” (PMG Page 10)
Additionally, Nephi has provided us valuable instruction on the focus of our missionary work:
“And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins.” (2 Nephi 25:26)
In CASRM, our focus will always be on Jesus Christ. This is His work. I testify He directs it. As His fulltime emissaries and lifelong disciples, we are blessed to be engaged in the work of building His kingdom in these last days. President Nelson taught that there is no greater work on the earth today than gathering Israel. What a blessing to be the Lord’s hands at this time in this work!
Sister Quinn and I look forward to seeing each of you in zone conferences this week. We will be providing instruction on our missionary purpose. We look forward to counseling with you on this important topic that must drive the things we do each day as missionaries.
We are grateful to serve with you. Thank you for your faithfulness, goodness, and discipleship. We love you!
President Quinn
