We Thank Thee Oh God for a Prophet
President Quinn’s Weekly Message
California Santa Rosa Mission
September 29th, 2025
Sister Quinn and I were saddened on Saturday night to learn of the passing of President Nelson. We love President Nelson! As we have shared with you in the past, we met with President Nelson over Zoom when we were called as mission leaders to CASRM. He was so kind and thoughtful with us. We will never forget our time with him.
In my message to you today, I wish to share a few of the teachings given by President Nelson that have inspired me over the many years he has served as an apostle – and later as President of the Church. I hope you will find these quotes inspirational:
“When I had to make a decision whether or not an activity was appropriate for the Sabbath, I simply asked myself, “What sign do I want to give to God?” That question made my choices about the Sabbath day crystal clear.” (GC April 2015)
“The Lord loves effort.” (GC April 2020)
“Good inspiration is based upon good information.” (GC April 2018)
“Nothing opens the heavens quite like the combination of increased purity, exact obedience, earnest seeking, daily feasting on the words of Christ in the Book of Mormon, and regular time committed to temple and family history work.” (GC April 2018)
“…whenever any kind of upheaval occurs in your life, the safest place to be spiritually is living inside your temple covenants!” (GC October 2021)
“…As you are true to your covenants made in the temple, you will be strengthened by His power. Then, when spiritual earthquakes occur, you will be able to stand strong because your spiritual foundation is solid and immovable.” (GC October 2021)
“The Savior’s message is clear: His true disciples build, lift, encourage, persuade, and inspire—no matter how difficult the situation. True disciples of Jesus Christ are peacemakers.” (GC April 2023)
“Mortality is a master class in learning to choose the things of greatest eternal import. Far too many people live as though this life is all there is. However, your choices today will determine three things: where you will live throughout all eternity, the kind of body with which you will be resurrected, and those with whom you will live forever. So, think celestial.” (GC October 2023)
“Today I would like to suggest five specific actions we can take to help us maintain positive spiritual momentum: 1) Get on the covenant path and stay there; 2) Discover the joy of daily repentance; 3) Learn about God and how He works; 4) Seek and expect miracles.; and 5) End conflict in your personal life.” (GC April 2022)
Over the next week, I invite you to reflect on your favorite instructions from President Nelson. Please spend some time reflecting on how you can apply his teachings more completely in your life.
It has been my blessing to be in the presence of President Nelson on a few occasions. I will never forget the feelings of love and admiration I felt for our prophet. The Spirit confirmed to me in each of these interactions that I was standing in the presence of a Special Witness of Jesus Christ. I bear my testimony that President Nelson was called of God to lead the Church. He was the Lord’s prophet on the earth! My life has been deeply blessed and changed by his inspired instruction. I am grateful for a living prophet. I promise you that as you follow the words of the living prophet, you will be strengthened to persevere and conquer any challenge life presents to you.
Sister Quinn and I loved being with all of you last week in our mission conference. We are grateful for the beautiful spirit we felt being together. We are grateful for the love you showed one another as we were together. Thank you for your goodness. We love you!
Love,
President Quinn
